From informal testing under normal use conditions, there are strong indications that when DSX Defender II has been applied to various vehicles, including light aircraft, seaplane floats, and race cars, there has been a measurable reduction in both aerodynamic and hydrodynamic drag.
An industry expert has written:
“When it comes to hulls, slippery is good. While this may sound obvious, there has recently been a subtle change in thinking as to what makes for a quick ship.”
“Now there’s a cleaner, simpler answer to hull perfection that adopts an altogether different approach to reducing drag.”
“ the modern idea is that it’s better to make the surface repel water in order to stop it attaching itself to the hull – a hydrophobic approach. Then take the theory a step further and make the surface so repellent that nothing, no matter how small, wants to stick to it and you have a low-resistance surface that remains very clean.”

Surfaces treated with DSX Defender repel corrosion as well as sand, debris, water, snow and ice. The hydrophobic capability of the surface results from the negative electrostatic field of the DSX materials and the smooth, sealed pores and asperities of the treated surfaces, make it difficult for any foreign matter to stick.
DSX Defender, is essentially a material wherein submicron size fluoropolymer particles are permanently suspended (DSX proprietary process) in a non-toxic and non-flammable, environmentally safe carrier.
The applied fluoropolymers are buffed into the surface. (See our Defender II page for instructions). The DSX particles embed into the minute surface pores and asperities, thus allowing surface protection and greater speed due to reduced surface friction.
DSX Defender will securely seal and protect the treated surface. It will not detach, vibrate out or wash away.
When DSX Defender was used on a Cessna 180 float plane and applied to bottom of the floats, the measured take-off distance was sharply reduced by 50%.
Customers in the USA report that after applying the Defender II wax to their hulls, “nothing sticks”. Algae build up is greatly reduced and what does form is removed very easily.
This last point is borne out by the products use in F1, where it is applied to cars specifically because it prevents dirt and rubber from the track, sticking to the cars during a race.
As the race progresses, accumulated track debris would degrade the cars aerodynamic performance. The Defender II helps the cars maintain optimum aerodynamic performance, because debris cannot stick to the bodywork.
The same principle would apply to the hull of a boat, keeping it cleaner for longer. Plus the hydrophobic nature of the very smooth treated surface, greatly reduces friction between the hull and the water.
For those of you who feel the need for speed, either under your own power, such rowing or canoeing, by sail, or if you prefer your speed to be supplied by an engine, DSX Defender II on your hull will reduce drag and improve performance.
Reduces surface friction between the hull skin and water
Optimize your hull’s performance
Simplify the cleaning of your hull when out of the water
Ideal for all rigid hull boats, sail or power, all classes of rowing boats, canoes, kayaks, jet skis, surfboards, wakeboards, water skis and kite boards
As well as the hull of your boat, another of our DSX products can help you both improve performance and save you money.
DSX Extra has been used for many years to improve the performance of both diesel and petrol engines and greatly improve mpg. (Visit our DSX Extra page for more information). Better performance, smoother running and more miles per gallon could be yours if you use DSX Extra in your diesel or petrol power unit.
Combine better engine performance with reduced drag on your hull, for greater enjoyment of your water sport.
